Dreadship
Another piece for the Blue Series that I'm working on.
This is one of the pieces I have on the go that depicts a dream sequence of the main character. It's going to lead to a huge action scene (probably will be one of the more difficult things I've drawn) ... This piece was also preceded by an action scene as well. -- more on that in time as I work on them outside of the real deadlines.
I look at the blog sometimes and get a strange feeling when I see how little I've posted from this series... then I open up my closet and see the inch-thick stack of drawings for it on one of the shelves. There will be lots more to show... eventually.
I often scramble to paint these between huge deadlines in the film industry I am employed in. When work slows up there I actually have time to draw some of these in the evenings.
... posed for again in this series by the amazing Alekai

More Dirty Work
Here is a quick and blurry iphone snap of my piece at the Keyhole Session's dirty work show at the Gladstone from last Friday night.
The show was a collection of work revolving around the various models of the Keyhole Sessions life-drawing. They also began photography workshops so much of the work was from those. Both types of sessions share many of the same roster of models.
My dragon piece contains several characters in the top darkness based on sketch studies done of three different keyhole models. In the top left of my piece is Jennifer Rose, followed by Nymph Suicide in the top middle. Alekai (an mm model) was the reference for the main figure.
At around the halfway point in the night I witnessed something awesome. Gallery artists can probably empathize as I watched the curator place the colored dot next to my placard.
... and my piece sold!!
I'm really happy about that. I haven't been part of an art show in a long time.

My Dragon piece from IMC 2011 tweaked for the show, and the very beautiful show curator (bottom left)

Tin Man
This graphite/watercolor drawing is current piece at the drafting table. It is part of an ongoing series -- more info about that series eventually.
The initial drawings for it from a while ago:

Photo Club
I work during the day as a matte painter/concept artist for feature films. Some of my compositor friends organized a photo club for the lunch hour (sometimes after work)... we all wanted an excuse to get around to using our cameras more.
At the time most of my memory card was full of flat texture reference for work... so I immediately joined up.
