Tor.com Illustration Master Class Article
It was amazing waking up to this news on facebook today.
http://www.tor.com/blogs/2013/06/illustration-master-class
My Game of Thrones assignment was posted alongside my classmates' illustrations for the Illustration Master Class 2013.
This news was great fuel for a new piece. I went to a Starbucks this afternoon and got halfway on a drawing for my latest final -- I will be posting it soon.

Illustration Master Class 2013 preview post
Last week at this time I was in Amherst Massachusetts for the amazing Illustration Master Class 2013.
I'll put together a bigger post about it, but I wanted to show a photo from the last night.
Sketch party back at the dorms on the very last night... Iain Mccaig drew me as Jedi.
Especially awesome time this year!
New post soon with more info and pictures...
Thanks,
Ken

Hooked
Last October I was commissioned to complete an illustration to be used on the cover and poster for an independent horror film titled Hooked (directed by Zach Ramelan).
The challenges of this one were portraying a very pulp-style composition while including the likenesses of the two main actors.
I had a lot of fun distorting the perspective so the house appears like a card-board set, and painting a giant moon. The strawberry jam splattering off the wielded hammer was also a lot of fun to throw in there.
Zach goes into the process of the cover image on The Amazing Basement Show: (Images of my approval roughs and in progress shots of the poster appear throughout the video)

Red series
Here is another piece for the 'Red' series I'm working on called 'Afterglow'. I'll post the previous illustration as well so the order makes sense.
I'll update with more pieces from this one eventually.

Impending Awesome
Working my sketchbook and painting late in coffee shops as another Illustration Master Class quickly approaches.
...maybe working a little too late...
I'm finally getting around to scanning some old sketchbook spreads. This blog was originally supposed to be a 100% sketchbook blog while in art school, but the focus has changed a little over the years.

Burst
With this piece I experimented a bit with leaving some of the drawing unpainted in the final.

Alley Confrontation
I was digging through old website files and realized I never posted the updated version of my painting adventures in urban fantasy.
This is the updated illustration.
I decided in the end to pull back on the fire a bit and go back in time a few seconds before the flames wrap around the monster... I think the sense of drama is a little better in this version.
Graphite, watercolor, and digital
